Festival Procession and Arena events

Last year on police advice we introduced a shorter route for the procession which will be in place once again this year. We will arrive at the Recreation Ground earlier than previous years, so make sure you are in position along the route earlier than you traditionally might have been. This year promises to be just as colourful and spectacular as ever, and who knows what might happen! As the old adage goes, ” never work with children and animals…”

Fancy Dress Procession: Do you want to take part? Whether you have a float, a walking entry or something else please contact Emma Rice-Oxley (emmariceoxley@hotmail.com)

Fancy Dress competition: Judging will take place before the procession. Join us at the western end of the High Street from 12 noon. Judging will start at 12.10 pm and then join the procession to show off your costumes. Winners will be announced at the Recreation Ground and there are cash prizes to be won!

The Procession will assemble at the western end of the High Street at 12 noon and starts at 12.30 pm and arrives at the Recreation Ground at 1 pm. So pick your spot along the High Street to watch the floats, fancy dress costumes and animal magic!

Band: This year the procession will be led by Eternal Taal..” an all female Bhangra drumming and dancing group. Established in 1999, the group has performed on some of the world’s biggest stages including  the BBC, Bollywood and Glastonbury Festival. The group will also be performing later in the arena where they will combine dhal drumming and dancing with a mix of contemporary and bhangra music. Eternal Taal means ‘everlasting beats’ – if you want a preview of what’s to come check out their website
