Welcome to Kimpton May Festival 2017

“At the Movies” is the theme of the 53rd Kimpton May Festival in 2017

Four days of fun filled events will start Friday 28 April through to Monday 1 May 2017

 

The bunting is up so not long now!

New to the festival and in keeping with the theme is the Outdoor Movie Night on Friday at 7.45pm

Come along to Kimpton School Field from 7pm and enjoy Mamma Mia on the big screen!

Tickets are now available online as well as at the door

 

Online booking is also available for Wine tasting on Friday, Kimpton Entertains on Saturday, Music Night on Sunday and the Fun Run on Monday

The Weekends Line Up

Friday

Fun Disco

The Junior disco has long been a favourite with children and parents alike
Games, music and fun to get everyone in the May festival mood

Where: Kimpton Memorial Hall

When: from 5.30pm to 7.00pm

Price: £2.50 – tickets on the door

Age: Reception to year 6 (Reception children to be accompanied by an adult)

Art Show

This is a major feature of the Festival, which brings many hundreds of visitors to the village. The Show takes place in the beautiful surroundings of the Grade I listed parish church. The Show is open Friday to Monday

The Opening Night of the Art Show is being held on Friday. This is a lively occasion when many sales are made. It is an opportunity to browse the exhibition of over 100 local artists from paintings, sculpture, glassware, and other media as well as listen to music.

Movie Night

Come along to the outdoor movie night featuring Mamma Mia!

There will be a bar and refreshments. Please bring your own chair, sleeping bags or blankets to sit on

Under 14s to be accompanied by an adult

Wine Tasting

Wines from the Old and New World. Sample them in the genial company of Mark Buckenham from the Wine Society

The winner will be the person who has the most likes when the competition closes at 3pm on Monday

The winner will be announced during the auction and receive £25  One entry per person

Fete, Food and Bars

Procession assembles at the Western End of High street (east of the Luton Road junction) – noon

A unique blend of robot comedy, street theatre and music creating an amazing show full of surprises

Romford Drum and Trumpet Corps  2.45pm
One of the oldest youth military style bands in the country. Its uniforms, instrumentation and style is closely based upon that of the Armed Forces Military Bands. The band has performed at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, St Paul’s Cathedral and The London Palladium. It has also had the honour of performing in the presence of every member of the Royal Family

There are lots of crafts being demonstrated this year from coil basketry to rag rugs and wood carving to trout fly tying

Five a Side Football

Get your mates together to form a team of 5 (plus 1 sub) one of whom must be a resident of the Kimpton parish

The tournament is in three school year groups: Years 1-3, 4-6, 7-9

A trophy will be presented to each member of the winning teams and to the runners-up

May Festival Sunday just wouldn’t be the same without Christine’s Stackyard Stompers, cream teas and Pimms

The “Stackyard Six” will knock your socks of with their mix of New Orleans Traditional and Dixieland Jazz

Brains of Kimpton Grand Final

The Annual ‘Brains of Kimpton’ challenge starts again on 19 April

Time for you to dust off all those forgotten little pockets of useless knowledge rolling around in your mind, and show everyone what you can do!

Teams of 3 answer questions on General Knowledge and specialist subjects

Heats take place on Tuesday 18 & Wednesday 19, with semi–finals on Wednesday 26 April

Monday

Fun Run

Dig out your trainers, it’s time to get training for the May Festival Fun Run.

The clock is counting down to the start on Monday 1st May!

The Kimpton fun run is an undulating off-road circuit through lovely countryside and bluebell woods. At the recreation ground finish you will find Kimpton has welcoming pubs, a hog roast, Pimm’s bar and other Festival activities. Coffee is served on the recreation ground for supporters.

The adult course is approximately 5.5 miles (9km) with marshals/signs to guide you and a water station at Codicote Mill (3 miles). All the entries are ‘on the day’. The children’s fun run is approx. 2.5 miles (4km). Entry fees are extremely reasonable, medals are provided to all children and other prizes are up for grabs.
